Myth. If I play well
enough, college coaches will find me.
Reality. Only the elite
players are readily known to college coaches. These coaches do not have
the time, money and staff to "search" for talent. Athletes need to market
themselves.
Myth. I have received
letters from many schools. I am actively being recruited.
Reality. You have
probably found your way onto a mailing list. Recruiting letters are a poor
measure of a coaches interest in you.
Myth. I want to play
Division I because I need the scholarship money.
Reality. Even in
Division I, many programs can only offer partial scholarships, if any at
all. Division II also has athletic scholarships available. In some cases,
While Division III schools are not allowed to offer athletic scholarships
at all. However, in many cases they can offer very attractive financial
aid packages.
